PREVIEW: The Sims 3 Alpine County – PROGRESS PART 2

Description: Large American seaside city with suburbs, golf course, forest, countryside and mountains with Texan terrain.

Creator: Western077

Stage: Beta (unfinished)

Requires: World AdventuresAmbitions, Late NightGenerationsPetsShowtime, Seasons, Supernatural,  University Life.

Custom Content: None

So Part 1 was starting to get quite crowded, so I decided to start a new page which will be covering the latest changes to Alpine County. There is also a Part 3 now.

I’m going to start this post with the tropical beach that’s hidden away from the rest of the city. You may remember this image from the preview post:

Screenshot-1289

Well forget it, because it’s gone! I have also got rid of the idea of turning it into a seaside town and with the new Island Paradise expansion pack I have instead started turning it into a luxury resort. I’m yet to build the resort which will be tropical themed like the huts surrounding it. I’m not yet sure whether to build a 5 star resort or build a crappy one so players can upgrade it themselves.

Screenshot-1747

Screenshot-1746

Screenshot-1745

As you can see, the resort’s garden is surrounded by little huts which will be private residential vacation homes. What I don’t like about the Sims 3 is that when you move your family to another town, they lose all connection with their friends and extended family in their previous town. So I wanted to make a world that has everything, so I never have to leave it, and that includes going on vacation (except of course for the World Adventures worlds). Now you can buy little vacation huts by the sea and use the resort’s facilities for free :)

Hmm, looking at it from here I might change the trees lining the road with palm trees instead, they look out of place. Oh and there will be a pier too on the beach :)

I’ve started a new post on the Sims 3 forum to try and get some help with this world, I’m struggling to get enough time to work on it and I want to finish it before the Sims 4 comes out. You can follow that here :)

The next few photos won’t make much sense, but read the comments and then you will understand :)

Coral Reef will go here

A marina could go here between the city and the resort. Maybe a port closer to the city and houses on the other side facing the ocean? Obviously I’ll pull out the land to accomodate this :)

Here is a mini update on the resort :)

  1. I have a suggestion, of course this is only if you want to make this, and i don’t know if you’ve already thought of it, but how about a community lot with boats, i.e paddle boats, sailboats, maybe speed boats near the forest/camping area?

    1. Hi Eerianna, I hadn’t actually thought of that! I was planning on providing one for the seaside cove, but that’s a really good idea! I need to figure out how to make a port as I haven’t played Island Paradise yet, and then I’ll add one on the forest’s lake. Thanks for the suggestion :)

This is simply an amazing work so far. I rarely look at custom worlds, but simply can’t wait to download this on. Like the seaside resort area.

I would also like to suggest that you create some coral reefs for diving spots close to the seaside resort and maybe just a small area for some beach side houses with some lots being partially in the sea so you can add private docks for the houses.

I am also crazy about the McMansion gated community. Looks great.

Being a huge fan of creating large estate grounds for one huge house and surrounding private lots, think I would end up claiming the whole resort area for that use, as I have never been able to find a town online that afford me the luxury of large private estate grounds to expand on my dreams. :) Hate that CW has never been made available for Mac users… would have ended up just making it myself.

I have built a massive recreation of Breakers Mansion over the past month now. So that resort spot would suit it perfectly.

    1. Thanks Jaco :) That’s a really good idea -I had forgotten about underwater coral reefs!
I was planning on extending the land out a little on the left of the resort so that there is enough room for a sea port that houseboats can use, I can also add some edge of sea homes by it for you too :) I think it would also be good to add some coral reefs by the cove (in the new photo above)

I’ve added some extra images of the gated community for you, let me know if you have any recommendations for the park in the center.

      Western077,

I would also just want to remind you that you need to make sure the sea floor is deep enough when you place reefs for diving spots. One of the main concerns when trying to add reefs to existing Sims 3 towns, is that the ocean floor is not deep enough and this causes a weird little glitch when boats travel over the lot. Check it out on youtube and you will see what I mean. Boat actually lifts right out of the water and glides in the air for a while before settling back into the water.

Thanks for more of those pictures on the gated community. Simply love that. Love the whole elitist feel of the community.

As for the open park in the center of the community… I am extremely tempted that you leave it like it is. I like the clean open look and fits well within the whole clean manicured feeling of the gated community as a whole. If however you do feel like adding something there, I would suggest a Gazebo, but keep the lawn nice and clean so it doesn’t clash with the over all feeling of the community.

As for extending some of the land out on the left side of the resort for more houses, I think that would work. I would however just suggest that part should be slightly raised and then lower to the beach. So the lots that cover it isn’t simply resting on a flat area that walks out onto the beach area. Could afford some grand spaces for mansions and luxury homes.

Then for the resort area, there is a massive stretch of beach behind it. I would suggest adding a beach lot area behind the large resort lot so the hotel(?) looks out over this nice stretch of beach.

You have no idea how much I have wanted to create a world like this before, but alas, CAW is not available for Mac users and I rather detest using boot camp. Gobbles up to much space in my opinion.

If you would like some help regarding creating houses or more lots, feel free to ask me. I like building a lot and pay a lot of attention to detail. Just let me know how I can help if you are interested and we can see how we will be able to do this. If you want an example of one of my most recent builds, let me know and I will send you some pictures.

Sorry… I am babbling now… How about a nice Marina in that small cove in the picture you posted where the reef might be placed? Don’t know if that might be something you can do?

    2. I haven’t yet played Island Paradise, but I’ll bear that in mind when making the coral reef!
I’m glad you like the gated community, it’s pretty much the whole reason why I started making the world -I wanted one like it for the Generations expansion pack! I was planning on adding a gazebo in the center with a few pieces of playground equipment so that children in the neighborhood can all use it, but only if it works in keeping with the style of the area (as the houses are all so big they will have their own playrooms and outdoor play equipment anyway). I will also make sure all the flowers and trees are in the same style :)

As for the marina houses, the land goes up on the left and creates a sea-side cliff which is where I was planning on putting them. I don’t think the photos show that, but I will find one that does to explain it.

I’m not sure which lot you mean for the resort? I was plannig on putting the resort on the lot attached to the road and then a beach infront of it for the hotel -is this what you meant?

Thank you for offering to help with the house building, most of them are actually built but are unfurnished or are just shells with the exterior decorated, so if you’re interested in furnishing them I can send you some of them to help me with? Let me know what you think.

Oh and I will be putting a small port in the cove, but I might remove it if I cant get it to be small as I want that area to look natural and quiet!

I think you are right about the gated community. Don’t think it has a need for a playground in the park, as most of the houses will have their own private playgrounds for kids.

The spot for the marina houses sounds exactly how I meant when I tried explain to you what I was thinking about. I just wasn’t able to say it that eloquently it seems.

As for the resort lot, I think we are on the same page there. So no further need to go into more detail there.

I would be more than willing to help you out as much as I can. So will do it when my schedule isn’t full with work. As I do have crazy hours, but let me know how we will exchange the lots and just let me know at what type of theme/style you are looking at for the lots and I will furnish it for you.

Get what you mean about keeping that area serene and quite. Maybe place dock/port areas closer to the city?

This is actually an excellent world. It affords the players a piece of everything that so many EA worlds don’t offer. I am very excited to get my hands on it so I can start playing.

  2. I thought I’d start a new message as it looked like the replies were starting to get squished!

I haven’t yet furnished most of the interiors or gardens of the houses in the gated community, so I might do that first before building a park so I can see how they look. I don’t want outdoor treehouses and slides in their gardens if it makes it look messy (I was also planning on setting all the gardens as public space so that if anyone tries to edit the exterior it will say the Homeowners Association won’t let them, like in real life gated communities lol) Maybe I can send you one of those to start furnishing? I can upload the lot to the exchange and you can let me know when you’ve downloaded it so I can take it off, as anyone else downloading it will be disappointed when they get a unfurnished house!

I uploaded an image of the area I meant for the marina and sea-side houses, just to check if we are on the same wavelength. It’s a render screenshot, so the quality isn’t as good, but you can see the area in red. But this could maybe be semi-joined to the city to become a port.

Don’t worry about any deadline with the furnishings, I too am struggling to find spare time for the word with my work schedule, I’m grateful for any help I can get! I just want to finish the world so I too can start playing it :)

      Wes,

Thanks for that extra screenshot. Yeah that area would work perfectly for the marina and some port etc. Only slight modification needed to fill that area out to afford either beach front houses or cliff side houses that face the ocean.

When you do extend that area to afford more land for the houses, I would say that mountain should extend out naturally along with it. As is it creates a great barrier between the resort area and gives it that secluded island feel.

I get what you mean about trying to keep the gated community as uncluttered as possible. I like the whole look of the suburb a lot. Simple elegance?

I added you on the Sims 3 Exchange. So you can just let me know and I will download it and furnish then upload for you again.

    1. Thanks Jaco,

I’m going to finish off the commercial district off first, once that’s done I’ll start on the marina and then it should just be mainly work on lots left to do, all the landscape sculpting will be done : ) Good idea on the using the mountain to separate the houses from the marina, that area needs work doing to it anyway.

Cool, I’ll let you know more about the lot furnishing this weekend, some of the lots only have the fronts complete, so the backs can be changed to make the roofing look more realistic, but I’ll go into all that detail later.

      Wes,

I know this is a very personal project for you and you might have your own personal preferences concerning the layout, but I have actually been doodling a map on how you could extend the “Marina and Beach District”. Just my wishful thinking of how the area might end up looking.

But, I will wait patiently for you to develop that area and good luck. It seems the task is just growing by the day. :)

I think you should defiantly put a port/marina and some seaside community lots closer to the city on that bend and add some beach houses inbetween that and the resort!

Maybe beach houses on cliffs like Malibu: http://malibudreamhouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/malibu-colony.jpg

or basic beach houses that you could find on the sims 3 exchange!
    ex: http://www.thesims3.com/search/lotSearch.html?&position=40&index=2

I personally really like the new option that came with Island Paradise to make houses with docks that go into the water and think that would work well there.

    1. Hi Zoe,

I might try and see if I can have a mixture of both big houses and smaller ones, as I don’t have enough cheap houses in the world right now. I could also add an apartment complex by the port now that island paradise has the option for building on the sea?

      • Jaco on August 23, 2013 at 1:53 pm

      Wes,

I think that was a good idea. Placing some apartment buildings/complex by the marina/port. That feels natural. As a lot of marina areas also have apartments and housing options by the marina. I would say lots closer to the marina and ports should be for lower end housing and the further away from this area you move you can add some larger lots or more expensive housing. I like the Malibu houses that Zoe suggested, but seeing as most are packed in small lots, I think they might go well with the apartments and closer to the marina.

I was thinking that the marina might also serve as a place to add extras. Like maybe a coffee shop or something along that line on the same lot. So it has more than one function. (Seeing as there isn’t really a “Marina” lot type in game)

As for the ports, I know that ports are used for houseboats and that takes a lot of space. So the marina would mostly be aesthetic (giving that extra touch of realism to the world) with small docks stretching out for sail boats and speedboats and such.

Ports are mainly taken up by a single houseboat and can only be used by one family at a time. If you do have some time just take a look at some of the ports on Island Paradise and you will understand what I mean.

    2. Hi Jaco,
I’ve uploaded one of the lots from the gated community on the exchange for you, you can find it here: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=7610581 You can see that it’s only partially furnished, but the parts that are done give an idea as to the style of the house. You can change all of the ground floor rooms if you like, I was just testing out layouts. Let me know when you download it so I can I can take it off the exchange and also if you have any questions!
As for the marina, I’ll test out changing the terrain and placing some ports to see if it works or not. Can I see your doodling map of the marina too? As it will most likely help get ideas, not too sure where to start yet!

Will get to work on that for you and let you know when I am done and then upload it to the exchange for you again.

    3. Awesome! I just realized too that the lot is an awkward size of 40 x 55, let me know if that is a problem and I can upload a world with that size in just for the house (as I can’t change the lot sizes because the ground they’re on has been sculpted so all the houses are all on hills looking down at the center instead of on flat land).
I asked admin for to help out on the image exchange, (or you can post it on the Sims 3 forum) :)
